‘African Netflix’ IrokoTV hits half a million subs

Nigeria-based video-on-demand service Iroko TV has hit 500,000 registered users, six months after launching its Nollywood-focused film service.

The self-styled ‘Netflix of Africa’ claims to be Africa’s first legal online source for Nollywood films and has a library of some 5,000 titles.

Iroko TV is headquartered in Lagos but has offices in London and New York and its site is accessible from around the world. The service’s largest markets are the US, the UK, Canada and Germany.
